I asked myself this aswell, the only explanation I could come up with is maybe lower revolutions & less load. When the noise first started I drove it with as little load as I could. 1st gear became noisy at Burpengary.

I cant seem to find data on my box, my prefix only has 1 letter: H 4460 137. Any input anyone. There is no room in front or behind the H so its not like its corroded.

What info are you trying to find out?

Well the ring & pinion ratio to seems to be out of irs ? not sure but when I went to investigate I couldnt find info on the box because of only having the H. The Ratio is 4.125, Most common I think is 4.38. Graham will irs pinion fit swing axle.

Is 4th gear on the end of your Pinion shaft splined, or has a single keyway?
Does your crownwheel has 6 or 8 bolts?
The problem you will have is needing all the special tools to set up the pinion depth and the jig for setting up the selector forks

8 bolt crown, I understand about the pinion, but I will need to think about the selectors. Anyway not sure about 4th, can you tell me from these pics.

8 Bolt crownwheel is the later one, so the IRS crownwheel will bolt to your swingaxle diff housing.

Can't tell from those pics, the smallest gear (4th) that you took off the Pinion shaft, does it have a keyway inside? or is it splined?

That's a splined 4th gear which is the later version, so yeah you won't have any probs getting an IRS crownwheel & Pinion to fit into your swinger box

Thanks Graham, My side plates have about 4 or 5 gaskets on each side that was put on from last build any idea why, not on housing but on tube plate. Maybe to allow for warpage like (bolt holes) not a flat surface any more. Rekon, or is there another reason.
