Baja Kombi Dual Cab Take 2

Postby VWNuts » Fri Mar 07, 2014 5:47 pm

Ok, since the Yellow and White dual cab has gone back to its original owner, it's time to introduce its replacement.
This car has lots of history like the Yellow and White one, and for those that have been around a while, this was known as Gyros. Another Kombi to come out of the John Alder Stables. It's travelled to Cape York, western QLD and NT and everywhere in between. The Kombi engine had a backfire and burnt out the engine bay. A Commodore 3.8L V6 was fitted as well as a 6 point rollcage, 4 bucket seats and racing harnesses and it was then entered in the Queensland Endeavour Rally. And now we have it to put back to its former glory. The height is dropped down at the moment with small tyres, but it will go back to its original height with 235/75R15 on the front and 33's on the rear.

As it looked when we picked it up

Man that is way cool, I was wondering what you were going to put your plates on now.

I almost bought GYRO myself as did several other people I know over the years but I think it is good that it is going to someone who will love it and might actually finish it. Then again it is driving now so you may just return it to a pulled apart state like so many of your other projects :)

Are you leaving the V6 in it ?

The V6 will stay in it for now, but the cooling system will change, the radiator sitting flat above the engine drawing air off the exhaust system probably isn't the best for cooling, or being able to use the tray for carrying stuff.

Here's something else I found whilst hunting for Gyros that you might remember....

They are awesome looking buses.. guessing they don't have much up travel with those massive tyres on the rear? can't wait to see more!
It will all be ok in the end.. if is not ok its not the end!
