Rear shock towers on an Early pan with IRS fitted.

If you look you will see where the arm has been hitting the tower in the vicinity of the brake line / upper arm seam. This is due to the shape of the shock tower.

If you compare this to the later factory IRS setup then you will see it has a lot more clearance.

To modify it I usually add a gusset to the area.

Then cut it to clear and flat plate the bottom.

I don't have a picture of it finished and from memory this was Troy's Old Floor pan back a few years pre V6 and this was cut Friday arvo before a beach trip because his trailing arms where hitting.

Are there any tips/tricks/special procedures for welding the cast shock towers?

Nah you will be fine, just make sure you clean them unlike those one Troy did :roll:
