If it makes power or helps it get to the wheels this is where it is at

1800 5 rib box question.

Postby bajabone » Wed May 16, 2012 9:45 pm

Is the 5 rib bus box genuinely stronger than the 3 rib or just the higher ratio's ?
I like 3 rib ratios with the big tyres on the baja but have access to a 5 rib when I get more hp in the back !

They are all only as strong as the weak link ( REVERSE !!!!!!!!!!!!). But i run a 5rib in the kombi . It's still low enough geared for my tank so in a light baja i think it would be good.

Hey Shane.

I'm fairly sure that for the most part the boxes are pretty much identical in strength.
The 1800 has a slightly beefier case but the internals will handle the same punishment that a 1600 box will.

I have found the 1800 ratios great for a daily Baja. They are low enough to allow you to crawl pretty well offroad. But high enough that the engine isn't screaming its head off at highway pace.

If you said I was a Volkswagen man, you'd be right.
