Irs

Postby shane2610 » Sun Jul 20, 2014 5:05 pm

Well tried to do the IRS conversion, I have a complete 1971 beetle IRS rear end. I made the IRS pivot box jigs, that was easy. Then I cut the pivot boxes out of the beetle IRS rear end cleaned them up and proceeded to put them in my buggy rear end. Made a cardboard template out of the pivot box, cut the hole out to put the pivot box in then tried the jig and guess what? The 71 pivot boxes are an inch longer hence I then had to cut an inch off the pivot box brackets. Now I have an inch gap around that pivot box. Pissed off, going to put a steel plate over the hole and leave it as a swinger.

Hey mate, Upload a photo so we can see where the gap is. The good thing about steel is that it is pretty easy to fill in a gap with some scrap steel. Dont give up just yet

Reduce your photo to less than 1024 x 768 and you will be able to upload them.

Otherwise open a photo bucket account and link to the photos in your post.

We'll really fn pissed of now !, got new pivot boxes got some in to weld them in place. But I don't know what happened ,it started when whent to put the gear box mount on it was half a hole out that was the start of it. Rhs whent perfect but the Lhs was up the #%@# grrrr . The Lhs side looks like the oil swinger ! Don't know what to do now,to get the Lhs pivot box out would a BIG job. So it looks like I will have go back to swinger, so that means that I have fore sale a5 ribbed box brand new 930 cv kit drive flanges and stub axel to suit and one of steel art gear box brackets . FNNN PISSED of . I say f the irs.

That's sounds bad! Did you use a set of IRS jigs? Can you post a picture? It probably can still be salvaged.
