I'm Happy

Postby Hogie1canobie » Sun Oct 13, 2013 12:18 pm

I only put the EJ22 in the buggy not because there was anything wrong with the vw but for something to do, All I can say is what a difference. Pulled the lifters out and freed the stuck one that was causing the ticking and now it is so smooth and quick.

Good to see it sorted and obviously another happy ej22 driver.
Time for a Noosa Northshore run soon!

Modern EFI is so much nicer than the old carbed VW motor.

No, There will be no swapping back. I really did not think there would be that much difference as I thought I had heaps of power with the 1600tp, but this thing gets up and goes and wants to keep going with the 1800 box.

I did most of the work myself but below is approx. -

Donor Subaru - $500
New but second hand adaptor plate, flywheel and clutch - $600
Stainless steel exhaust, cat and muffler - $700
Reversed inlet manifold second hand $50
Shortened sump I made out of scrap,
fuel lines and bits and pieces to make accelerator ect - $100
Put a 1800 box in but would have done that anyway the same as the 50lt alloy fuel tank which incorporates the factory Subaru fuel pump.
I think that was all. Bar work I just adapted what I had albeit a bit rough.
Oh and Radiator $120 chinese aluminium mazda MX3 off ebay and hoses $140.
That's what I love about Buggies, its your choice to do it cheap or expensive and the average person can do it themselves.
