DoubleD's new Buggy

Postby DDWR450F » Fri May 23, 2014 12:38 pm

Hi all,

As you may already be aware I was recently after a 4seater buggy.

A few years back I was unfortunately unable to complete
my GS Limo project and moved it on.

Recently my wife came up with an idea whilst I was
working I a project in the shed, "Why don't you buy a Buggy"......

Woohoo........ So the search began (approx 3 min after she left the shed)

A couple of weeks ago I ended up buying Wibbles Yellow & Purple
MaxFx buggy from a guy down in Bendigo.

It has a 2lt Kombi motor with a 1600 box (I think).
There's a heap of things I have on the to do list, but they will
come in good time.

It's currently registered in VIC and I'm in the process
of getting an engineers Certificate, blue slip & then
NSW Registration.

I am booked in to see Athol (engineer) next month
so with a little time before engineering I will see what
I can knock over from my to do list.

Pics to come (can I attach from my iphone???)

Cheers
DoubleD

Sweet, it is always cool when one pops back up and it still gets referred to by the original builder.

Congrats on the buy, here are some birth pics for you :)

Cheers for that Brad, I have been busy with it over the past 2 weeks so I'll get some pics
up of the progress so far.

Things I have on my, to do list......

* Paint the body,

* Paint the roll bar, side bars, front & back bars,

* Change the color of the interior,

* Re paint the chassis,

* Get a Bimini top made up for it, but I don't think I can get one at the moment ad the main hoop is
too high for the screen,

* I'm wanting to change the roll bar down the track to get it as low as possible (legally) and also
have a front hoop, somewhere to put the boards!

* I'm also looking at either getting a Upright cooling kit or putting a new air cooled engine in, but this
is as always not going to happen fast. Now that I have cleaned the engine and worked out where all the oil is
coming from I have fixed that for now.

* I would like to get a new set of wheels for it, but not sure what I can have until I speak with the engineer.

My main aim is to get the buggy engineered and registered so the whole family can enjoy
the buggy experience!

The first thing I wanted to sort out was to find out where all the
oil was blowing out from.

It had clearly been blowing out the filler and dip stick for
a long time, but it was blowing out from somewhere all over
the top of the engine.

After further checks we noticed a lot of oil
being forced out of the catch can sight glass fittings.
"Fossil" also told me to check the oil level and I found
500ml of oil over full!

Since I've put the correct amount of oil in the engine
it hasn't leaked since!!!

yeah Brad its held up very well, the guy i bought it from only used it around a few forest
fire trails. It hasn't been on the sand as yet.

I love the buggy, its just a little bright for me, maybe bright isn't the right word, but just not my colour choices.

But the buggy itself is exactly what I'm after! I would love to work out how i can put a lower curved roll cage with
a bimini and some sort of hard top.

More progress pics to come.

cheers

With the floor coming up so well and putting the
Purple interior back in it inspired me to put it back up
on stands and do some more.

I took the side bars off and 2 pac'd them along with
doing the side of the buggy with the stipple finish under body
paint and then 2 coats of 2 pac black.

So with how nice the floor came up and not liking the purple interior even more,
I decided to look into getting the seats re done in black. But with
being told that it may cost me around $2500 to have my buggy engineered I began
looking at different options.

I came up with the idea of trying to re color the interior myself until I
could afford to have it done properly.

So here are some pics to show you the results.

This will look like a different buggy when you are done.

Looks good.

I was so impressed with the results of the seats that
I decided to give the dash & the steering wheel a go......

The only other thing I have done is taken out the roll bar and the
rear seatbelt mount bar to give them a coat to match the side bars.
