Saved to live another day

Postby Hogie1canobie » Tue May 22, 2012 9:44 am

Hi All, Thought i would share these 2 photos of a friends Manx he has owned since the early 70's, I picked it up for him at a hippy commune at the back of Nimbin this time last year, It had been sitting in the open for approx 20 years along with spare motor he was going to give me for picking it up. Needless to say i left the motor there as it was siezed and half buried in dirt.

It's been sitting behind the house he lives in which is in our work yard along with a half built yacht, paraglider, 6 wheel hovercraft/banana mobile along with other crap, remember he was a shareholder of a hippy commune for 35 years. He used to be a vw mechanic and assures me he is going to get it going. He has helped me with my build.

What happened to the r/h front corner? Looks like a lot of fibreglassing needed there

The broken off piece was on the floor, he ran off a cliff at Nimbin, broken arm, collarbone and ribs. He reckons in the early 70's he rolled it in the middle of Sydney, jumped out got it back on its wheels and drove off. Originally metle flake orange which you can still see under the mission brown house paint, apperantly so he couldn't be spotted from the air in Nimbin watering his garden.

LMFAO1... Watering his garden. A "herb" garden I'm sure.

That's the funniest way I've ever heard it put

Hi all, I know you are all excited to see the progress on this manx. Now don't fall off your seats in amasement of the engineering feats and dramatic progress.
Apparently it use to have a number in the centre of the firewall above the tunnel, does that make it authentic ?
It also appears to be made for left hand drive as that side of the firewall is strengthened.

 yeah lots of work there ahead of you.....if i were you i'd be doing the maths on a new genuine body...the amount of fibreglass and labour that needs to be sunk into that in my opinoin isnt worth it......when i did mine around five years ago the amount of work in patching all the holes/"great ideas" everyone had along the way i would have been better off staying at work doing some O/T and saving for a new body  talk to BBA as they have a few options on some good looking SWB bodies if you or your mate are serious about a buggy build
if in doubt hit it with speed.... just don't hit the cactus!
