Four Seater Family Cage kit for SWB Manx ??

Postby Brad » Fri Apr 08, 2011 1:44 am

Have been looking at my Manx being built and was wondering if there is much interest in having a Family Kit Upgrade.

It would consist of a modified rear tube and back seat setup to allow 4 people, well 2 adults and 2 kids to fit in. It would be a bolt in option but you would nee to cut your rear fibreglass to get the seat area.

It would not be ugly and hoop style etc would maintain traditional lines. It will not be a Munster Mobile.

Cost wise I would think under $3k which would include the 8 point roll cage, rear seat and new alloy rear section along with all bolts and mounting hardware. It would be engineerable and once fitted a blue plate could be given after inspection.

I would love to see it in the car and I imagine plenty of others would as well.

Loving your work and looking forward to more pics of all the projects you have on the go.

A great idea. So this cage/mod will legally turn a 2 seater swb to a 4 seater swb yeah? I went to a lot of trouble to buy a 4 seater swb even if its totally unpractical so i can carry a third or fourth person legally even for a short distance.

This KIT will yes. Isay kit because it comes at a cost, you have to cut out the rear parcel area of your Manx to get the seat height needed without ending up with an ugly cage.

I find R&D the best way to come to a solution:

Nice! will be following with interest, although my sights are now firmly set on a Manxter eventually, kids are only a year or two from outgrowing the "standard" Manx back seat.

Yeah Manxters are way cool ... but I would hate to see people not be given an option to have a 4 seater manx if possible. The main reason for the family kit is so that I can take my your bloke out in the Manx and thus justify haing it and an Manxter.

That and the fact I don't want to test out to many breakages in my Manxter, that is what the Manx is for.

I just figure everything needs a little tweak and mod here and there.... that being said my wife was very happy when I bought a Manxter in Gel Coat Finish, metal flake at that .... guess it is safe to say there will be no cutting at all on the Manxter.

This project got canned.

It wasn't proving economical time wise and we decided we needed more focus on the Manxter 2+2. The bit cut out was glassed back into the body.

What about a really really nice cage kit for a SWB Manx, one for a 2 seater?
And it bolts on some nice side intrusion bars that are outside of the body but fit under side pods.
