Rubicon Trail September 2015

Postby Brad » Tue Jul 15, 2014 8:30 am

The Manx Club will be running a Trip along the famous Rubicon trail around 19 Sep 2015. Exact dates will be promulgated early in 2015 but at this stage we are looking at 21 - 25 September for the trail itself.

We will be limiting the trip to 10 buggies at this stage although if we get enough interest we may open up another group.

The Trip will be classed at extreme and any buggies wishing to attend will need to pass tech inspection prior to attending. This isn't done to be an ass this is done to ensure someone's POS Buggy doesn't wreck it for everyone else.

So far we have 5 confirmed starters so only 5 spots left. Post your interest in this thread if you want to come along. We have some buggies shipping from Australia others are planning on getting them local.

Starters:
Brad - Meyers Manx Tow'd - Subaru Powered
Andrew - Watching on You Tube
Paul - Meyers Manx Tow'd Subaru Powered
Buck - Meyers Manx Tow'd Subaru Powered
Josh - Meyers Manx Tow'd Subaru Powered
Jim - Meyers Manx Tow'd VW Aircooled

We've been talking about during the last week in the states and yes , you'll either need a locker or an LSD minimum to get through a lot of the trail , oh and preferbably a Tow'd as they'll give you NO sides of fiberglass to leave on some of the tight sections , as trust me your gunna scrape !!!
Working at getting my Towdster and the Baja Bus back on the road !!!

Will try and talk my better half to come along as spectators.
I plan to rent a 4WD from LAX and drive to somewhere we can see the events.
Sounds like a great trip, all the best to those participating.
I'm having trouble getting in and out of my buggy these days...arthritis.
See ya next September. (reminds me of a song ??)

Hi Parj,

If you are going to hire a car I suggest you look into getting one from some of the guys who allow you to drive Rubicon in them. There isn't to many places you can just sit and watch as such and we aren't going for a collection of events, we are going to drive from one end to the other.

Thanks for that, Brad. I was going to use your Rubicon trip as an incentive/motivation for my
beter half to do another motoring trip to USA/Canada, and view all the buggies from the parking
area shown on your previous threads.
I'd be very surprised if any 4WD rental would allow access onto the Rubicon trail. We couldn't
rent one in Fairbanks, Alaska, to go up the Dalton hwy to the North slope, as the 4WD rentals
don't allow you on gravel roads, due to windscreen damage. (Jesus wept !) We ended up going
to the Arctic circle, up the Dalton hwy in our 2WD rental ! (un-insured for damage or recovery)

The area around Lake Tahoe alone is worth the trip, so if we can see some buggies, before, during or
after your run, would be sufficient excuse for us.
I've seen some videos of people doing this trail, and wondered how they do recovery for breakdowns ?
Anyway, all the best, wish you guys luck and show the Yanks what can be done.......Cheers, Parj
