Sporting Wheelies Day at the Beach - Rescheduled to 19 June - see separate Topic

Postby Maxx » Fri Jan 08, 2016 9:56 am

At out last AGM, members were keen for the club to engage in more community style activities. The committee has approached The Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association which has suggested 29 May 2016 as a date where MDBCA members would take some Sporting Wheelies members for some runs in buggies.

Details of the day are yet to be finalised but likely to include a beach run and BBQ lunch in the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast area.
To move forward with arrangements we will need 5-10 members to commit that you and your buggy will be available for the whole day to carry Sporting Wheelies members. Please check your calendar and mark the date if you are interested. No doubt this will be further discussed at or after the AGM later this month and more details will be posted here in due course.

This is such an awesome idea!!! We just did buggy rides down here in Newcastle to raise $$ for a little 3yr old battling brain cancer.

What's happening with this, is it a go ahead? I'd think about towing my buggy up from Newcastle to make a kid smile!!

Hey Dan

Great to hear of your experience in Newcastle and many club members have expressed their support for this type of community activity.

So this IS going ahead on 29 May - in fact the Sporting Wheelies first question was whether we could make it a repeat event :!:

Just need some folks to commit themselves and their buggies for the day (please post below if you want to play a part).
The details are still a work in progress, but the basic idea is to get some members of the Sporting Wheelies to a beach in buggies for a BBQ lunch. Still working on "which beach".

Cheers

I can't commit a buggy. But my big bus should be driving around by then...

Smiley - having a bus as part of the show would be fantastic. It's about seats with seatbelts in a registered vehicle.
How many folks fit in the bus??

It's a five seater. Doesn't have the middle row fitted.

We did this event quite a few years ago and I must say the guys from the Wheelies enjoyed the day very much, including us as well.
We had quite a few buggies show up for this event so get behind this again and come and enjoy the day.
And yes I think we should have this as an annual event every year.

Cheers Eileen :D

Hey Maxx, I'd be keen to take part in this event, so I'll throw my name in the mix. Will keep an eye on the thread / discussions regarding location and see what's happening as the date gets closer.
I may not have gone where I intended to go ... but I've ended up where I needed to be. Douglas Adams.

OK folks, Disabled and Sporting Wheelies are now chasing me for details so need some feedback and buy-in.

Date is set for Sunday 29 May.

Beach closest to Brisbane that we can access is Teewah. An application to hold the event at Bribie was knocked back initially and is now under further discussion (it's a long game) - but we need to provide the Wheelies with some certainty for 29 May.

High tide at Teewah that day is 1:50pm (yes I picked the date  ). Less than ideal, but workable if we get up there in the morning, lunch at Freshwater Day Use area and head back down the beach late afternoon as the tide permits. Prepare for a longish day!

I'll put the details up on the club's fb site as well, but please commit here if you have a buggy/baja/bus that can make the journey and you're willing to spend a fun day.

Count me in Max.
Will probably stay Saturday nite at Noosa north shore somewhere. Saves getting up at sparrows fart to drive up on Sunday :|
If anyone else has the same idea, might be able to camp or organise a cabin or two :?:

Dave the only problem with your plan is that we start in Brisbane with picking the Sporting Wheelies people up at Newstead near Breaky Creek .

Purple Haze is available.
It might be a long day for the Sporting Wheelies.
